Private profiles showing up as Level 0
This has been a thing since forever and I never gave it much thought, at least not until Valve recently fixed avatar frames not appearing on private profiles, along with animated avatars showing up as still images.

Ever since the points shop was introduced 5 years ago, I always assumed that wasn't a bug or oversight from Valve, but more of a subtle way of encouraging people to keep their profile public. I guess I was wrong, or maybe they've simply changed direction.

To me these changes suggest that soon they might give us the option(or force us) to have our level visible even if the profile is set to private.

Personally I think at least offering that option would be a win-win. Encouraging people with private profiles to spend money on their level, while making it harder for scammers to hide behind burner accounts.

Accessibility options have nothing to do with profile levels.

I think level 0 accounts should show up as level 0.

Private accounts should show up as whatever level they are.

It'll let people tell the difference between the two, and why would anyone care if their level is public? That can't be anywhere close to what people want to keep private.

Everyone has a right to their privacy.
Their level is none of your business.

I certainly think it should be an option for anyone who would want to have their profile level show while still remaining private. In general, I always say that more granularity for privacy options should be added.
An option for those who have a profile level other than 0, set the display level to anything up to and including your level. Once they figure that out I figure they can do the same with steam badges.

Sounds like a good middle ground from what I was saying yeah I support between you and peppermint saying it.

Your account level does nothing but grant you access to showcases and a larger friend list. It has no other value beyond that.

Having at least one level above 0 has significant value. Gets you away from the "this is just a throwaway troll account" suspicion.

Limited accounts don't have their name parse on the forums.

Then why does their level matter?

:nkCool:
Every 10 levels gets you another showcase slot that you can put on your profile page(even if you don't have that many). With points you can buy more specific showcases or upgrade certain ones to level 3.
Level also puts a cap on how many steam friends you can have.

I never said it did. Just pointing out that whether or not the account is limited doesn't mean it's not a throwaway.
I'm not sure that's what they meant by the question DarkCrystalMethod

I think it was in the context of distinguishing burner accounts from non-burner accounts that are just set to private.

EDIT: your question answers why their level would matter to them, but the question is why would the level matter to anyone else.

A throwaway account is not necessarily the same as a burner account. Most people associate burner accounts with limited accounts.
