New desktop oriented UI
With the new steam machine coming, it's a great opportunity to give us a new, clean steam overlay, which doesn't look like an android UI like the current steam overlay.

It can make sense for the steam deck, it has touch and a small screen. But on a regular laptop or desktop a more efficient UI, which is built for mouse and keyboard would be appreciated. I really don't like the huge buttons and sliders.

Maybe something like the old steam overlay, but with a modern touch.

The current overlay *is* the desktop-orientated UI, built for mouse and keyboard.

The controller-orientated overlay in Big Picture Mode, which is what the Steam Deck currently uses and the Steam Machine will use, is already completely different from the overlay on desktop.
Mate either want Steam desktop client, or Big Picture Mode.

Steam client is more meant for mouse and keyboard, and even touch screen since touch screen just a big mouse pad.

Big picture mode is made in mode for console like, using controller, can still use KB, Mouse, and touch screen that what steam deck using.

And lets not forget there is a setting for big picture overlay when using a controller.

They are identical. Just open the controller settings of a game, that is basically bpm in a window.
