better moderation against russian bot spam please
discussion groups are constantly being spammed by russian bots/state actors.

for example.
non stop propping up discord adverts and russian localization requests with intent to clog discussion groups.

Steam moderation needs to do a better job at preventing this sort of spam.

steam moderation often oversteps game moderated forums to issue pointless bans yet they they are silent to this sort of activity.

other russian bot activity include woke/anti-woke, lgbt/anti-lgbt, spam as well.

Steam need to clean up this spam from the steam community.

In an AI age, why hasn't steam employed this technology to moderate this sort of spam.

Steam moderation team ONLY works on Reported Threads or Posts, Report the accounts via the profile page, and a valve employee will look into those reports.

Report them via the proper tools, block and move on.

There is no one looking and scouring the steam forums or steam profiles looking for bad stuff. You have to report it, via the tools provided, to have them look into it and take any needed action.

Also keep in mind game hubs are supposed to appoint their own moderators to help manage this, and the game hub can opt out of valve moderating it

Remarkable. You will fit right in here. Though I am sure Satoru will have some pointed remarks about this thread.

If you don't report stuff then its not really gonna get addressed.

ALso note that steam can't ban the discord.gg URL since basically all developers use it

The reporting system is garbage.
Reports that i've made take weeks to resolve. It can be the most disgusting, racist, bigtoted types of posts that will sit there for a month. And then IF steam does say "thank you for your report bla bla bla" it's been so long you have no way of going back to remember which post it was and how to find out if they did follow through. Sometimes I do remember the post, only to find no action was ever taken. And, depending on the content, the report may be simply ignored depending on the attitude of the moderator looking at that ticket and if they silently agree with the language that blatantly violates steams community TOS.

it is blatantly against TOS to be +1 bumping threads. its bumping, it spam, it's unproductive and off topic.

lgbtq representation or not...OFF TOPIC TROLLING SPAM
woke/anti-woke...OFF TOPIC TROLLING SPAM
female representation/voices, for or against....OFF TOPIC TROLLING SPAM
whatever f'ing language translation...OFF TOPIC TROLLING SPAM.

You all know EXACTLY what i'm talking about.
Helldivers2 is a perfect example of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trolling.
Warhammer.
Battlefield..
on an on.

And we constantly see these topics bumped up, trolled up. 100% guarantee those threads are reported. Steam mods SILENT, developer's mods, SILENT.

I have reported and followed some of the most obscure racist and bigoted threads that are in no way on topic for the game discussion group they are on. Game developers may have abandoned the game and dont even bother looking or moderating. Steam devs just let it say up, and get bumped up and re-ignited OVER AND OVER again. I've seen threads like this ongoing for YEARS. Hello mods? where the ♥♥♥♥ are you. "THEY WAVERED OUR MODERATION SERVICE"

I've seen steam moderators jump in to instantly moderate a discussion group they had no business moderating then say, OH THE DEVELOPER CAN MODERATE THE GROUP THEY SEE FIT. But it was a steam moderator who did the ban. And you'll get game devs who don't bother moderating, and steam moderators will respond to your report with "OH THEY WAVERED OUR MODERATION SERVICE". It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ selective moderating.

But god forbid if you fight back against these trolls. Point out the trolling, call them out on it, point out the bot activity. BAM - mass reported by bots an whatever weak argument they make. usually "unproductive" or "off topic" or "rude" . A steam mod will come in, instant ban, not a month later, regardless if it was right or not. I've had to get this behavior appeal reversed time after time after time.

Warthunder is moderation is NOTORIOUS for this behavior. And they will intentionally NOT perma-ban you from their group knowing that they can then ban you again later to affect your community wide ban status. And more often than not, they will say the ban reason was "rude" if you make a critical comment they don't like.

Steam need to get AI to deal with these report.
AI can detect report abuse.
AI can read the whole thread and context in an instant and determine if the report is justified. Human mods aren't wasting their time doing that ♥♥♥♥.

Then the bans and thread closing becomes more reliant on an algorithm set by corporate leadership and less reliant on the political views of a handful of moderators or game developers (some with likely questionable political/government backgrounds)

This isn't rocket science, this isn't half life 3. This tech already exists.

If the AI algorithm acts biased in it's moderation, It will be called out by the community. Then steam can publicly address the moderation algorithm with comments like "yes, we are for pro-racist and/or pro bigoted in our moderation" or "yes, are absolutely for trolling ragebait intent of angering western communities on both sides of an argument to assist russian propaganda bot farms"

Or perhaps they don't want that because then the intent would be obvious?

...on Steam Valve moderators can do anything they want to. They just choose not to, until they see necessary actions fit. And just because some developers use discord.gg links, doesn't mean, that Valve can't censor this links. Same goes for banning users. The problem is, that there are so many requests every day, that it takes time for actions, since every report needs to be checked thoroughly.
Imagine they would ban every person reported, just because one or two people reported an issue. That stuff takes time and a lot of efforts. That is why they introduced the auto system, which takes a lot of work from them, but still not enough to have fast enough reactions.

Valve won't ban Discord links at they are mainly used as social media links on the store pages and for official servers in game hubs within pinned threads.

For the former...

Is mentioning you have a unofficial community discord for a game even against the rules?

A user or a game dev?

For a user, that depends on the game hub rules. Some do have sub-forums for advertising, others don't mind their main discussions having Discord ads and some don't want any advertisements.

Couldn't be an unofficial community discord if you're a game dev. It'd be by default official.

Either way, if that's the case, then it seems as though this suggestion should be directed toward the game hub mods rather than Valve.

Yes and no. The game hub mentioned is also moderated by Steam Support but the game devs don't seem to care about it either way.
