Stronger Player Review Standards
We're seeing a rash of false AI-usage accusations by players against developers in their game reviews. This seems to be an attempt at extortion. It's like mafia street thugs demanding protection money against fake accusation review bombing which damages Developers' revenue streams and reputations.

These are actual harms to the Developer and maybe even fellow players if they're missing out on a great game based on lies. The reviewers know this. That is their intent. They even have bots hopping in their comments to pile on, thank the reviewer and claim they're not buying the game because of that review and those accusations. That would sound like damages if it were real and not staged to support a narrative.

I think Steam ought to include in the Community Standards and Rules that any accusations of undisclosed AI-generated content need to be made privately in formal complaints with Steam and supported by evidence or expert analysis (not pseudo analysis and amateur impressions).

There needs to be a proper investigation and fair adjudication, with opportunity to appeal/respond before irreparable harm is inflicted with mere "suspicions", "feelings" and "impressions".

Anyone who publicly makes an accusation using the review tools needs to at a minimum have their bogus review removed, or even see their account suspended from posting reviews for a while if the violation is agregious.

This harmful behavior needs to be nipped in the bud before it gets out of control and ruins the shopping experience for everyone when nearly every game is review bombed with libelous, unsupported claims.

If memory serves, Valve held that reviews containing factual falsehoods were not something they considered worthy of removal, and coming down against the developer complaining about such a thing in that matter set that developer off on such a tantrum it brought an unpleasant end to his relationship with Valve.

Perhaps that policy has been reviewed since then as Valve has done a lot of work trying to make reviews less of a cesspit and more of a metric they can tweak and manipulate as they see fit, but I would not expect them to suddenly decide falsehoods regarding AI usage accusations are important enough to change their apathy toward falsehoods in reviews.

I didn't know that history but it's interesting, thank you. While I don't think "tantrums" or ranting is productive, I do see the developer's side if they were harmed by roving rage-bait mobs and Steam did nothing to prevent or correct it.

I liked your use of the word 'apathy' but I'm afraid it's worse than apathy. If it were just that Steam or Valve didn't want the hassle of moderating this garbage, I'd somewhat understand as the undertaking could become overwhelming. They also might take a free speech position.

However, it's appears to be worse than mere apathy because Steam moderators are actively doing the work of protecting these garbage reviews by removing legit comments from other players calling out the thuggery. So they're not taking a free speech stance and they're already doing the work (probably with the help of AI/algorithms), just in the wrong direction.
