Maximum pricing on Marketplace
Would it be unreasonable to have a maximum set price for cards on the marketplace? Something like £0.15 for non-foils and £1.50 for foils?

There are cards out there for uncommon games where people set absurd prices hoping to catch whales. Foil badges would still be pretty exclusive at £1.50 per card without being totally restrictive when you are just missing one card.

And sure, I know, you can make packs to try to crack the rare foils - that is how I got my rarest badges - but a more honest marketplace would be a better way to go.

Or does Valve value its cut too much?

the cards go for what people perceive them to be worth it. Adding a cap will make people use third party trading sites instead.

To be fair, that is a good point I hadn't considered. But I see a lot of uncommon foils priced at £25 or even more.

Yes, it would be unreasonable. You wanting to buy something for a pittance doesn't mean people should be forced to sell it to you for a pittance.

The price is the price. Don't like the price? Don't buy the thing. That's the limit of your rights and reasonable expectation.

Not relevant. Too bad. You'll just have to be patient and wait for the price you want.

Prices being different than you want is not dishonest. I don't think you really understand what honesty is. Because you're using it as "I get what I want on my terms"
Hey chill man, the previous person answered the point much more reasonably and with actual logic. You just ragged out over some perceived affront to capitalism.
You asked the question on a public forum. Don't do that if you don't want responses, plural.

I'm not responsible for how you imagine my tone. Or for not liking my opinion. Having things already being the way they should be doesn't bother me one bit, friend.

Foil cards are exceptionally rare compared to the standard ones(often cited at 1% rate), combine with demand their prices are easily 100-1000* as much as their base forms.

I am not arguing over their rarity and again you make a good point.

What I see on the marketplace is people pricing cards that will never get sold on the off chance they can catch some whales. This is not wanting to buy them for a pittance as one poster indicated but feeling the actual value of a foil card is not 100 times a regular one.

Maybe I should have asked the question "Can the rate of foil card drop be increased?"

For clarity, there are not many foil cards I want now. I spent years making packs to make 6 foil badges that I really wanted. I could have spent the cash - I have a job after all - but it felt like a reasonable use of my effort to buy gems and craft packs till I got all the ones I wanted.

Just because I now pretty much have all the badges I wanted does not mean that the market is a fair one. I look at the period when I was crafting and trading as my past, but I still felt like raising the question over the whale-bait on the marketplace.

No intention of ruffling people's feathers but one last point - it was indicated that it was for what I wanted to possess. That was an incorrect assumption.
I think there should be a cap (stares in Nightcry foil card prices) but it should be significantly higher than this.

Maybe cap non-foil cards at the equivalent of $1 & foil cards at the equivalent of $7. People can still make a reasonable amount of money selling rarer cards that way, but you won’t have people selling an individual card for more than the full cost of the actual game anymore in the vast majority of cases.

The actual value of the card is only what people are willing to pay and what owners want to sell their cards for. If that's too much for you wait or forget about it.

If Valve wants to, they will. They won't because you want to buy foil cards for less.

It's not fair for people with rare items to sell those items as much as they can? Why shouldn't they?

I'm gonna bet when you sell valuable items you wouldn't want to be price controlled, or have the value gutted because someone else didn't want to pay the price. And frankly any denial you make would be a bold faced lie.
I think a cap is justifiable if you target it to people selling cheap cards at high prices to drain hijacked wallet accounts but I don't know if such a thing is necessary in practice.

Otherwise Valve benefits from letting these things go unchecked.

Nice. The third borderline-toxic post from you in the one thread. No point in my responding really is there? You seem to have decided who I am and how I conduct my life.
you have three options:
Take it and pay the price it's supplied for
Make a buy offer for a price you deem acceptable and wait
Leave it and ignore it.

The cards go for the prices the community sees fit in their dynamic negotiations.
