To be honest, only a VERY small part of the user base cares about achievements.
Similar to the PlayStation trophies would also be great.
Achievement showcase = Gamerscore.
Secondly can you explain why the system on Playstation and Xbox is deemed superior yet games get abandoned on consoles?
It's a lot more thuoroughly designed. Beginning with the sound of the achievement on a playstation, which is legendary - it sounds truly rewarding. Here on steam the system feels like it was just added because it had to be added, unlike on the consoles, where the system is more than just a number. It's a system, which is deeply integrated in the DNA of the platform, unlike on steam, where its just slapped on.
One huge miss is that there's no weighting of achievements on steam, on a playstation you have bronze, silver and gold trophies, indicating the difficulty to obtain, but also giving the players something powerful to showcase. Looking at a players trophies on a playstation profile definitely holds more excitement than looking at people's achievement here on steam... here it's just numbers, in many cases boosted by nonsense achievemnt clickers, which undermine the credibility of the system.
But biggest issue is that there isn't really any depth to achievements, bronze, silver gold trophies add depth to the system, which steam lacks. Sure, you have "perfect game completion", but that's really not the same as a neat trophy classification, which isn't only structured well, but also finished off perfectly with a high quality design. Looking at a psn trophy has something steam just cannot achieve, no matter how different achievement showcases there are. None of them match the authenticity of a PSN profile's trophy section.
But yeah, you've shown more than enough that you openly deny an achievement system, so you'll probably never get it why people can be passionate about it.
I also explained in the post you quoted why it's not worth having tens of thousands of development studios replicate the work that SteamHunters has already done.
And yet it does not stop games getting abandoned on Console.
PC is an open platform, Console is not.
Enter appid.
Give cheevo.
??
Profit.
Welcome to PC gaming.
What command is that? I only see commands to clear a specific achievement and to clear all achievements.
Anyway, for actual results, use SAM.
