Auto Update is worse than testicular cancer
I know a thousand people have complained about the "auto update" feature. Please pretend that I have used every explicative in the most crude combinations here to express my extreme distress that Steam STILL hasn't listened to it's clients to add a STOP AUTO UPDATE feature. :steamsad:

You can not have games auto update and only set them to update when you launch the game.

Steam will very likely never provide users with the ability to never update games, because that's not what Steam was made for.

Yes, but this is not terribly helpful since to play the game one must launch it.
Steam was made to auto-update games? No, no it wasn't.

Steam was made so Valve could keep their games updated for their players. This focus continued when 3rd party games launched onto the platform. If it wasn't made for this purpose, I can almost guarantee they'd have allowed for people to choose to not update their games if they wish.

They have given developers the tools to allow players to run different versions of their games, but it's up to the developers to use them.

I do wish for offline titles this could be disabled. also always ON updates from 100-1000 different software can become more and more of a risk on us. when a game never needed a new update, why would I ever want it to or feel like one have to be aware of ALL the updates?

Also it can ruin the flow of "just to play a old or previous game"
But sure that many new games are tied to services that wants to be always up to date.
