add file sharing to steam for easyer file sharing
game devs at times need save files from players to help fix bugs, so if we can't use 3rd party upload services to give the devs the files to look into bugs, why not add file sharing to steam itself to help here, letting users send files to others without the need for email, friending them or using 3rd party upload services for file sharing.

a file sharing service on steam could be very helpful for this kind of thing.

Excellent idea, but it should only be between the customer and the dev.
If people started sharing their save files, perhaps to insert malicious content, that wouldn't be good.

good call there. the idea is for it to share files between game users and said game's dev.

If a developer requires a save file they have an upload option as they do for attaching other files such as logs.
i have yet to see something like that, and have always had to use 3rd party upload services for file sharing.

Devs can PM (Private Community Message) users who post in their hub and those messages can be sent like a normal comment section.

Your suggestion makes Steam the 3rd party service, so all that's changed is the cost of adding another feature to the client that is already being handled better by other 3rd parties.

It also opens Steam up to a lot of liability, unwittingly distributing pirated or malicious content, or spending more money having to actively monitor all the files being uploaded to them.

i have never seen that. at times, the devs ask for files and leave the rest to the game user. somethings, the user wall use it on there side to send the requested files.

Most devs and even Valve suggests Dropbox.

It would be nice for devs indeed. I assume you want it something what MetaDefender Cloud, or Scyscan does right? Or just direct download, and no virus checking?

yes, but with virus checking. if you feel safe and virus checking flaged files, you can download it. so, easy and safe.

not all do. i found most leave it to me, so how do you know if they think of the 3rd party upload services you use as safe or not. you don't.

It depends, some sites offer virus checking for you, and may disclose what anti virus they're using, unless it's their own anti virus, which funny most anti virus copy off each others for updating on signatures detections, and some will alter their execution behavior, example how most anti virus won't detect something as a virus, but got one that freaking out thinking it's a virus, and find out it's false positive.

Most game developers (myself included) have a ticketing system or email address for submitting save files and logs and that kind of thing. Steam implementing their own thing would be ignored by most developers, at best.
