More privacy controls for friends
Hi everyone,

I’d like to share a small suggestion that I think could make the Steam friends system even more useful.

Right now we can organize friends into categories, which is great for keeping things tidy, but these categories don’t currently affect what information different groups of friends can see. I believe it would be really valuable if Steam added more detailed privacy options that could be tied to these categories.

For example, I might want all of my friends to see when I’m online, but only a specific group to see what game I’m currently playing. I imagine other players might have similar preferences - some information they’re happy to share broadly, and some they’d rather keep visible only to close friends.

Adding privacy settings per friend category (such as "show game activity", "show online status", etc.) could give users much more control over how they present themselves on Steam without needing to constantly switching between "Invisible" mode and "Online".

I’d love to hear what others think. If this sounds useful to you too, feel free to add your thoughts or support. The more feedback Steam sees, the better the chances that a feature like this could be considered in the future.

I think it's easier to just not add some people or remove them.
