download to backup on usb drive
i want to use my low storage capacity laptop to download my games while im in my bedroom to update and download games like mmo's and big large or massive games straight onto a usb drive that is plugged in that can range from 256 or so GB to 2TB on another drive.

So how can i do this, so then i have the games on the usb as a backup, then all i have to do is transfer it off the backup onto steam via steam on my desktop in my study.

not a fan of leaving my desktop on through the night anymore. but my laptop could be different.

With the drive plugged in formatted (if not done from factory already).

In Steam.
Settings -> Storage -> in the drop-down that shows your current library, select the option to create a new library.

Select your USB drive.

Now when you install a game you can select the USB drive.

On your PC you do the same by creating a new library on the USB drive to access the contents, and use the move option to move the game(s) to your PC.
