Steam Support Siding With Trolls
My friends tell me they reported trolls in a forum who were off-topic and clearly have the intention to start flaming. They haven't be ban and the trolls are free to continue trolling and causing chaos, while never receiving a ban.

No, it isn't my friends causing any issues. The topic is going fine until these trolls come in and go off-topic and attempt flaming with the commenters like its a sport. Even when they're blocked the trolls are not banned and continue causing problems. There is no real way around this. The Steam Support aren't making righteous choices. They just ban the reporter for an easy day on the job and then go back to watching TV so it seems.

We need responsible, not irresponsible Steam Support individuals to handle any problem with real solutions, besides waving " Steam guidelines" at innocent reporters like it's a solution but when that is just a lazy way of saying "I don't want to help."

There should be an option to place "BLOCKED a.K.a TROLLS (steam users) from entering a thread created by the creator in a forum in a list only the creator has. This way they do not cause havoc and chaos, etc. This will also encourage them to create their threads and hopefully forget about trolling because Steam is doing something about them now.

You idea of preventing blocked users from entering a thread would be abused within seconds of it being possible.

People would use it to create echo chambers and prevent users from being able to post.

Also, your friends would not get in trouble if they don't engage with the trolls.

Report the trolls, block the trolls, ignore any of their posts, and then move on with your life.

What you seem to have a hard time doing is ignoring the blocked posts and moving on with your life.

Once you start ignoring the trolls, they lose all of their power and get bored and they move on to a place where people pay attention to them.

That doesn’t seem like a good suggestion at all, half the time when someone complains about “trolls” they just mean a different opinion so it would just end up being abused.

The trolls would take full advantage by blocking everyone and then posing in every thread.

The trolls would prevent proper discussion from taking place.
Animus 11 月 24 日 下午 1:51
Users don't and shouldn't have the capability to prevent others from partaking in discussion posts.

If you or your friend want that kind of power, make a steam group.

you've recognised two large problems with the forums, which are often complained about with valid reason.
1. there should be a 2 way block. the current "block" system is a shambles.
2. moderation are abysmal and the report system is flawed and abused.

sadly, valve don't care.
best of luck out there...

Two way block is easily abused, like if it existed here I could call you a cheater/pedo/some other pariah status, provide fabricated evidence, then block you and you would be none the wise, but everyone else would be able to see it.

Moderation of a game hub is only as good as the developers/publishers manage, with the baseline being the hired moderators which are pretty decent in their jobs of dealing with obvious problems being reported.

Moderation is mostly fine. They continually hit someone for harassment posting thousands of messages on a users artwork before eating MULTIPLE bans for it, so you should know first hand that moderation works. Just because they don’t ban people you don’t like or who don’t take the bait doesn’t mean moderation has issues,

I concur. I hope they make improvements rather then keep everything lazy and stale.

That type of system can EASILY be abused.

Any sort of system that prevents users from joining a forum discussion that way will be abused by those very same trolls you want to stop.

All those trolls have to do is block you and everyone else they can and then make a post in every single thread.
They would then have blocked you and everyone else from posting in the threads.

Liers and those who spread fake/false information would block users who call them out on their lies so that they can spread their bad info with consequences.

Or users who don't like being told something they don't want to hear could block everyone who doesn't agree with them creating echo chambers.

See how easy it is to abuse such a system?
That is why Valve will never implement a system that lets users control who gets to communicate in the forums.

If you look at the forum guidelines page you will the the words EVERYONE IS WELCOME.
This means no user can control who gets to use the forums.

Unfortunately Steamcommunity moderation is outsourced and many of them likely aren't native english speakers so they don't know context or nuance. But also Valve tends to be way more lax when it comes to punishments against users. Which is why you can have someone get a warning/tempban for being mildly rude to others, while having a neonazi spreading pro-genocidal rhetoric completely get away with it and still be posting.

It sucks but unless valve gets a huge amount of pressure from publishers I wouldn't expect it to change, Valve doesn't answer to advertisers like other sites so they have low motivation to moderate effectively.

A society in which everyone controls the opinions of one another is a society doomed to failure because it will stagnate and stifle on itself in mutual disagreement and censorship.

The block works as intended unless the blocker decides to post comments on another users artwork by intentionally bypassing the block they imposed.

The regulars love those threads and want nothing less than to be shut out from them. Hence why they are consistently the most popular threads on the board.

Threads in which nobody posts are not going to be harmful
