Steam Box Customization
Hey Valve team, I just wanted to throw an idea your way about the new Steam Box. I think it would be awesome if you offered customizable shells for the system, kind of like how people buy different phone cases. Basically swappable covers that let players personalize the look of their box without having to mod anything.

You could do a ton of cool themed designs. Valve games alone already give you so many great options. Imagine a Portal-themed shell with the clean Aperture Science look, or even one with the blue and orange portal colors wrapping around the edges. A Half-Life shell with the Lambda symbol and that classic orange-and-black style would be amazing. Team Fortress 2 could have class-themed designs or a Red vs. Blu edition. Dota 2 could have hero-inspired artwork or faction color palettes.

And beyond Valve’s own titles, you could team up with developers on Steam to make limited-edition game-themed shells. Players love showing off their favorite games, and this would make the Steam Box feel more personal and connected to the Steam library.

You could even offer different materials and textures, like soft-touch, matte, brushed metal, transparent shells, or versions with RGB accents. Little extras like modular side panels or interchangeable decorative inserts could make the whole system feel customizable in a fun, accessible way.

I think this kind of personalization would make the Steam Box stand out, give fans something cool to collect, and tap into the same excitement people already have for customizing their setups.

Just wanted to share the idea. Hope it sparks something!
