Besides, people already have all those things in their TV.
EDIT: SMART TVs already have lots of those apps you don't even need a Steam machine for those
All consoles have this though, it's standard. I have a PS5 as my media hub right now connected to my receiver for good audio while watching movies. I use it as a blue ray player / streaming services device. I used to play PS exclusives but not really anymore.
All I'm saying is this is a key feature for a lot of console users and should be integrated into the steam machine for it to be competitive as a console. Right now you'd have to switch to a desktop mode and use a browser. It's clunky and way too involved for a general console user.
Sorry I don't mean that they need to be installed out of the box, I'm saying they need to exist and be downloadable.
The key for consoles is that I pick up a controller and I can do everything with that controller. I shouldn't have to switch to a separate device to watch movies.
How? Is it easy?
That's how.
Valve sees no reason to bring non-gaming services to their GAME Launcher/Store.
It's a PC running Linux...
I'm saying a great reason is for console plebs to be able to stay in the ecosystem and have the expected experience on the upcoming CONSOLE
I watch Netflix and Prime through a web browser.
You can think of it as a console if you want. But, it's just a PC running Linux. Steam is a PC gaming platform. You might need to get used to the idea that Valve is going to treat it like a PC running Linux.
And for perspective, Valve doesn't refer to it as a console. They explicitly refer to it as a PC https://psteamproxy.yuanyoumao.com/sale/steammachine so regardless of your internal thinking, and business decisions you would make for a console, you're thinking of something different than what Valve is thinking. At least at the moment.
Then console is the place you should be if they need to integrate such services in order to draw in the few they can.
