Different nickname in game as the steam profile.

I don't know if this is a bad idea or not, just thought 2 seconds about it and would be nice having different name in game then on steam.
My steam nickname is BRATAN but in cs:go they would see me as Luke.
Main reason i would use an option like this because i'm changing my name a lot on steam and sometimes friends on steam are messaging me questioning who i am.

Valve patched the name change command using the console in CS:GO years ago.

Agree. This would be useful - I don't always want to have the same name on Steam that I am using in game... sometimes because I am playing with friends and might want to use a name that might get a ban on Steam (swear words, sexy words, etc.)

It could be implemented without breaking any current features by simply adding an option on Steam to set a "game display name" in addition to the existing "profile display name"

Games that use the name from Steam can simply be fed the game display name, resulting in no changes required to any existing code on their end.

Game developers can use either system but it is up to them to decide this.

I saw smth like this in tf2 idk of that could be caused by fact that nicknames wont changed while match is going but totally diffrent nick in game and steam it was looking like steam didnt show some symbols that have been able to see in tf2. Weird. Any ideas how to do it? And which symbols could do that?

I like this idea.

Steam is passing the nickname to the games doing this so Steam can definitely pass a different name to certain games. Valve having the talent to code such a thing though is another question entirely and one I would not gamble on even with Valve Time drawing out the resolution infinitely.
