Option to lower a game's played hours/play time
Sometimes, I end up sitting idle in a game while I'm away from my PC or doing something else (or occasionally forget it's on in the background..), and there ends up being time recorded that I'm not actually playing the game, so I'd like if there were an option to reduce the visible play time in order to show the effective amount of time I've been playing.

It would mostly be for display and personal record purposes, like if it's a game we want to accurately showcase or wanting to know for reference how long we beat a game in. There could also be the option whether or not to display the original/true play time next to the effective play time, for example in the game library, on your profile or on a showcase, as well as an option to remove/undo it.

It may sound like an odd suggestion, but I just don't want to look at a bunch of my games' playtimes knowing they're off :sadMio:

So, how is Steam going to know when you idle a game, or you play a game for real.... Come on.

Time played is counted from the moment you launch the .exe, to the moment you close the game. Steam cannot determine what you were doing, so it's up to you to ensure you aren't idling if you want actual play time to be recorded.

Learn to shut down the game when you're not playing it.

To a certain extend, that is already possible. But I like your anecdote.

i think s.a.m. (steam achievements manager) can do this

it has been a minute since i used it

and not for that purpose

but i think i remember seeing something to adjust the time played

That's called a bidet.

You can only increase time played (by having the game open). You can't decrease it, or people would abuse that to get refunds on games they've played all the way through.

Seems you need to remind yourself to not idle or go afk.

Or just be aware that the number is higher than the amount of time you've spent actually playing.

Leaving a game open and paused doesn't hurt anyone (apart from maybe a slight increase in your power bill).

More important why do you care about those hours in the first place?
