Proposal: Revamping the Steam Activity Feed — Make It a True Creative Social Space
H:heartmm4:ello Valve team and fellow Steam users,

I’d like to share an idea that could breathe new life into Steam’s Activity Feed (the Wall) — turning it into a more interactive, creative, and social part of the platform.

:Wowdemon: The Current Situation

Right now, Steam’s Activity Feed allows us to see achievements, screenshots, and reviews from friends — but it’s quite limited.
In a time when platforms like Discord, Reddit, and YouTube Community allow users to express themselves freely, Steam’s feed feels static — more like a notification board than a living community.

Yet Steam already has the foundation for something bigger:

- Millions of active users.

- A vast ecosystem of creators, modders, artists, and streamers.

- A reputation as the center of the PC gaming universe.

:barclay1:The Idea

Let’s make the Steam Wall a true social and creative hub, not just a passive feed.

Key features to consider:

- Allow posting custom images, fan art, memes, or short updates.

- Enable reactions and emojis (similar to Discord or YouTube).

- Add comment threads under posts for organic discussions.

- Highlight official creators or verified developers, giving them space to share updates directly.

- Allow users to follow topics or tags (e.g. #horror, #indiegames, #art).

:Mycakeee:Why This Matters

Steam is more than a store — it’s a community of creators. Many users already express themselves through artwork, guides, and workshop items.
However, these creative efforts are scattered across different parts of Steam. A richer Activity Wall could bring all of that together in one living space.

Examples:

- A fan artist could post a drawing of Elden Ring directly on their feed — fans could react or comment instantly.

- Indie developers could tease screenshots of upcoming games right from their profile.

- Players could share achievements with personal thoughts, not just automatic system posts.

:SmithLuckyHorseshoe:Benefits for Valve

- Increases daily engagement time on Steam (users would visit more often, not just to launch games).

- Opens new revenue streams, e.g. profile customization, premium reactions, or visibility boosts for creators.

- Strengthens community retention, reducing migration to other platforms like Discord or Reddit.

- Encourages user-generated content, which drives both engagement and discoverability.

:cl_scqr:The Vision

Imagine opening your Steam and seeing a dynamic, living feed:
Your friends sharing moments, creators posting art, developers teasing updates — all inside the same ecosystem you play in.

Steam could evolve from being the best place to play games
→ to being the best place to live your gaming life.

Thank you for reading — and I truly hope this idea reaches the amazing team at Valve and sparks discussion in the community.
Let’s make Steam not just a platform, but a creative universe.
