Paypal payment with Ubikey
Hello,

I can't use the Ubikey to 2FA into my Paypal.
After Payment sometimes a window opens with a small browser to Paypal.com.
But pressing the Ubikey Button doesn't get recognized.

I had this for a long time and have a secondary method with google authenticator.
I would like to deactivate the authenticator and continue with my key.

Is this Problem known/can this be fixed?

PS: I talk about the steam client on windows/linux. I don't know the state of the steamdeck or other.

Havent Valve and Paypal had some ongoing disagreement or something for months?

oh that nsfw thing. I didn't realize that. Good thing my currency is not affected. yet.
Though I guess the ubikey problem is a technical one.

this has nothing to do with steam

It does. It works in the normal browser but only not in the steam browser.

You not being able to login to your PayPal account is not Steam's concern.

You need to contact PayPal support.

Steam client is using a very old version of blink/chromium/CEF, which is likely not compatible with FIDO keys (I'm assuming you mean yubikey), or maye there is some flag (switch chrome://flags/#u2f-security-key-api to enabled for chromium 109, which I think is what steam uses), but idk 'cuz I never use blink-based browsers.

Overall, using steam client is dumb, you should be doing everything in your browser. I only use client in mini mode for convenience, 'cuz launching games from bookmarks gets annoying, and the client has to run anyway.

steam uses CEF 126, you can find the version number by going to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64

left-click chrome_elf.dll and the version number will be on the bottom of the explorer window

for context Brave browser's chrome_elf.dll is 142

I found an older post a few years ago with an older chromium version.
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/3365901765276206401/?ctp=1&l=japanese&utm_source=chatgpt.com

so I guess I just have to wait a few years until steam updates cef again..
The reason someone posted about backwards compability I can understand a bit.

Just stick to browser, as long it requires latest version, don't expect any game client to be doing so as sometimes, or often they don't update to the latest if there isn't a need to do so from their point & view.

Only for non-USD regions.

Use a standalone browser to complete your purchases. It appears Valve has stripped out many CEF features.
