Please give me the option to remove the steam link filtering.
I have friends I've met IRL and went to highschool together that have their links filtered. I get it if the link would be meant to be like "Steam" or if we are talking about a low traffic site, but I cant understand why or how steam link filtering applies to even instagram or wikipedia or youtube. Its incredibly annoying and the entire steam link filtering site takes too long to load and adds unnecessary traffic and load for both my internet and for steam.

Why not just give us an option to turn it off and accept potential risks?

That would be a bad idea. Steam needs to block more links outgoing from the steam services.

Because most users wouldn't understand the risks and open Steam up to risk.

How did you, or your friend setup the chat filter???

Scroll down to CHAT filter.

instagram, YT, and Wiki works just fine just tested. Or are you talking about forums? If forums go to link above, go to CHAT filter under "never filter these words" put without qoutes "\pL+" then should unfilter text on the forum.

If this is about time to load embed that something can not control, and this just depends on network speed, and connection as well for how long take to reach the server.
