Steam gaming phone
There is no advantage or benefit to Steam doing this especially since they could only do something like this selling unlocked versions at a $1k+ price point. I legit would pay $1k for a phone like this, but I know most people don't buy unlocked, they get dumb leasing agreements on their phones and always fall victim to Wireless carrier "deals" cause no one does the long term math on their agreements.

I am just sick of every smart phone being horrible and am desperate for any alternative devices that are unlocked and have an SD card slot, with a decent processor, with no bloatware, maybe some wireless charging and a headphone jack, and a linux based OS that isn't turning into the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Android is becoming would be nice.

It will never happen. It's just a suggestion/Idea

yeah, it solves the software problem.
Doesn't solve the hardware problem though.

I would definitely be interested in buying a Steam Phone with some type of linux OS. I really just want to get away from the Apple/Android duopoly.

Not just the Apple/Android Duopoly although there is starting to be less and less reason to go Android if it's just gonna be a version of Apple that proudly spies on you. Seems like their move to only allow approved devs is about more than just ending what you can install on your phone

My issue is the lack of hardware options. Want a phone with a decent processor? Samsung and Apple are your only choices now.
>LG folded (they were my Smartphone of choice before, hurts my heart they are gone like you wouldn't believe)
>HTC folded
>Nokia folded
>Siemens folded
>Sony is about to fold
Don't even get me started on the smaller brands.

It also sucks that the things I have interest in on phones doesn't allign with what others want from a phone. I want SD card slots and harddrive space, Good RAM, A processor that is equivalent to a snapdragon 855 in performance, good bands for reception, and wireless charging (or a usb C that NEVER breaks) and good screen resolution. I want headphone jacks and removeable bateries back but no one wants to do this.

Most normies care about "muh bezzles", "Muh camera filters", "muh monthly installment payment deal", "muh super duper thin", "Muh super big screen", and "is it pretty?"

But lets go into a delusional fantasy world where steam decides to enter the grave yard of smart phone markets.

Closes I could see steam doing to something like this is making a 2 part type deal.
>Hotspot + mini portable steam deck
Have a steam manufactured data hotspot device that works with Wireless providers (already kind of a niche device), then sell a Steam Deck ULTRA MINI (basically a smartphone form factor steamdeck sold as the ultra portable deck) that has the option of being used as a phone when connected to the hotspot that Steam works with Wireless providers to sell.
Now this would not be a mainstream solution that would set the world on fire, forget your hotspot your "phone" wouldn't work.
However if it could be a clipable solution to the phone you would gain a lot of interest in niche markets. It would be kinda bulky, but honestly the kind of market that cares more about specs than chasing retarded apple trends would have a solid base of interest.

They also could get away from some of the leaked government screwing with phone manufacturing the same way they dropped the deck without raising red flags against console giants
>It's not a phone, its a phone factor tablet PC that has the option to be used as a phone that is made for greater portability.
>Our wireless hotspot can be used with any device and is designed to keep our base engaged with gaming where ever they go

Of course the reason this is a delusional dream is the price to manufacture a phone is insane and solutions to thermal issues on top of solutions to things like even being able to get a hold of Gorilla glass for your screens so they don't constantly break gets hard.
Sony made the closest to what I wanted out of a phone with their latest xperia's. You could only buy unlocked and it was about $1.5K.

Redmagic already has a $650 and $750+ phone. If both parties were willing to make it work with Linux, that would be a way to achieve both.

Does it have an SD card slot? That is a deal breaker for me if they don't
