Community sponsorship idea-— Let Players Gift Games to Wishlist Users Who Can’t Afford Them
TL;DR- Add a Community Sponsorship feature to Steam — let players gift games directly to people who have them wishlisted and mark themselves as open to sponsorship.

It connects existing systems (wishlists + gifting + Steam Points) to make generosity easy, visible, and meaningful — especially for indie and player-driven communities that grow through word-of-mouth.

I’d love to see Steam introduce a Community Sponsorship system — something that lets players pay it forward and help others experience the games they love.

The idea builds on features Steam already has — gifting, wishlists, and points — but connects them in a way that encourages generosity and community growth.

Players could mark games on their wishlist as open to community sponsorship, and others browsing the game’s store or community page could choose to gift a copy directly to someone who’s expressed interest.

Steam could show a small note like:

“3 community-sponsored copies available — gifted by players who love this game.”

Developers could theme or personalize how sponsorships appear

It encourages generosity, discovery, and a sense of shared ownership — especially for smaller studios that thrive through word-of-mouth.

Steam Points or a simple “Community Patron” badge could recognize sponsors who take part, but it doesn’t have to be about rewards — just connection.

This kind of system would make wishlists and community hubs feel more alive, giving players a tangible way to help others join small communities they care about.

You won't get free games bro.

If people wish to give games they can without some special systems

Friends can already do this. Is making friends to hard? You just want presents? Well... good luck with that.

Also frankly, there's better ways for users with money to support charities buying games for "needy" PC gamers.

It encourages generosity, discovery, and a sense of shared ownership — especially for smaller studios that thrive through word-of-mouth.

You make these sounds like obvious goals that Valve is trying to achieve, and you have the solution. But what if they aren't, and it's just made up whimsy on your part, then what you really have is a solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

Haha, no i don't want free games. I got the idea from a small MMO i'm playing and came across a youtube video of someone just talking about the games demo and some random youtube comment gifted the game to the guy to grow the community which is genuinely nice. Hard to believe i know.

It doesn't take anything up from Valve or anybody if anything like i say it can be used from leverage if you want to have a corporate perspective

All it would lead to is people getting spammed with unwanted friend requests by users who cannot afford games.

It would only lead to more begging.

If someone cannot afford video games, then it is not the responsibility of others to do so for them.

Steam is not GoFundMe.
