[Suggestion] Independent Privacy Control for Wishlists: A Recurring Community Request
Dear Steam Support,
I am writing to propose an enhancement to Steam's privacy settings that would significantly improve user experience and resolve a current inconsistency.
Currently, the visibility of a user's wishlist is tied to the privacy setting for "Game Details." This means that if a user keeps their game library public, their entire wishlist is also forced to be public.
This situation creates a privacy concern. Many players, including myself, may have games on their wishlists or in their libraries (such as adult-oriented titles) that they prefer to keep private. While individual games in the library can be hidden using the "Private" setting, the wishlist lacks this granular control—it becomes fully exposed whenever the game library is public. This inconsistency undermines the purpose of having per-item privacy controls.
As a result, I hesitate to add certain games I'm interested in to my wishlist, as doing so would generate public notifications on my profile that cannot be hidden without setting my entire library to private.
Therefore, I strongly recommend introducing an independent privacy toggle (e.g., Public / Friends only / Private) specifically for the wishlist, decoupling its visibility from the game library settings. This change would align the privacy logic across different sections of the profile and better respect users' privacy choices.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope this suggestion can be implemented.
