It's not the GPU but the tech within the CPU/MB that is the limiting factor. Even 5-yr-old hardware is Windows 11 compatible given it has the correct set of tech.
There's already the Deck that can be used as a PC. And there is no way, even in laptop form, will they be able to reach a $50-100 price point. Even the Linux-only PC/laptop builders can't hit it and they've been in the business far longer than Valve.
Windows 10 will still be a viable OS for a few years before online services begin to drop support for it. There has never been a time when a discontinued Windows OS was good to use one day and bricked the next. If you're looking for a non-Windows solution, you can do it right now for zero dollars just by grabbing one of the many Linux OS distributions out there and install it onto your current PC, then install Steam, run it in Big Picture Mode and go from there. You don't need a whole new SteamOS specific device.
Only Windows 10 32bit support is being dropped.
main pc (previously ran win 7 pro, now running win 11 pro 24h2), i bypassed ms account and all hardware requirements, from win 7 pro - win 10 pro, into win 11 pro, all in one go and kept all my software installed, files and settings, etc..

old laptops (one needs emulated popcnt, the other supports popcnt, ie.. 24h2)

that said, when steamos 3 comes out, i will likely install it on the side and check it out, i tried all the older ones when they were released and updated.
anywho, good luck and have a ncie day
1. it's free if you use a MS account and sync your data...by free I do mean you pay with your data
2. $30
3. 1,000 MS Reward points. While you can't farm them as fast as you used to you can still earn enough to cover 1,000 for free updates
Or install windows 11 using one of the workarounds as provided by MonkehMaster in post #4
you can run 32bit OS's on 64bit hardware.
as to why someone would use a 32bit OS as a daily (now a days), i have no clue, but ifs a fun and interesting experiment, which usually ends up with being installed and running just like a 64bit OS, but.... when viewing hardware, or performance, you see everything has basically lost half.
for instance, the cpu likely shows (example) an 8 core as a 4 core, at least thats how 32bit os's on 64 bit hardware behaved back before win 10.
have a nice day
are those the actual options (havent bothered looking, cause not using 10)? thats some funny stuff, especially the sync ms account and/or the ms reward points
have a great day
you don't need steam OS. steam OS itself does not enable windows games on linux, valve's proton does.
dozens of high quality linux distros that can run proton to run steam games today. but users afraid to try it.

salva uses arch.
i would rather a steamOS 3, than a basic linux distro, as steamOS 3, will be fine tuned and updated, by valve, saving me much hassle.
anywho, have a nice day
Options I heard a while ago. Also read the use a MS account and sync was also an option for people in the EU, specifically, after EU complained to MS. Don't see how it is any different to what they already stated.
Did see a chart a few weeks ago that showed win 11 being used more than 10 gradually over the last year. 11 grew as 10 declined perfectly until June/July and then it started to flip and 10 increased while 11 declined. More surprising was Windows 7 increased
Sure it's not 100 % accurate but he it is

Oh and yeah I've been paying attention to Windows 10 and the extra security updates price for a while. Tried Win11 a few times now and gone back to 10 every time. Also using Linux a little too
Edit: Oh and have a great day too
My day invloves going round my Nephews to help with his new PC, Win11, so will likely be me cursing MS as I try to find where it moved stuff, renamed or completety removed
interesting, ill have to look into the stuff, info for info's sake and all ;)
i help quite a bit irl with pc's as well, family, friends, or others.
win 11, without the bloat removed, is a horrible experience, runs slow and is buggy due to it.
remove the bloat and it runs quite decent, barring the development bugs and changes (keeping in mind, im running a x99 platform and my performance isnt as good as "modern" stuff, but suits me fine)
i removed all the fluff, edge/bing, xbox apps/features, ads/news and anything else i didnt want or wanted disabled or set properly.
have a great day
First thing I plan to do is move taskbar to the left and de-simplify the context menu. We haven't sat 50% further back and don't need the enlarged text nor the requirement to press show more. Context menu is hidden by default like it has been for decades, a user shouldn't need to edit the OS to show all the options, permanently.
I'm supposedly neutering my system because Windows 10 doesn't have the best scheduler for a 12700K but I've accepted that over staying with 11. If I wanted a MAC and/or STUPID...sorry, not sorry, SMART device interface I'd use those platforms.
Enjoy your day, I should sort a few things before I go pull my hair out
Have a good one everyone!
