Make game ownership mandatory to participate in specific game-related steam forums
I'm fed up with troll kids vomitting their sexist, racist HARRASSMENT 'troll' posts on every forum now, or GET RID of the jester awards that encourage them to do this.

You can ask your 'sHoUlD i PlAy tHis gAme' questions on Reddit.

Devs already have the power to restrict forum usage in their game hub to owners only, with the exception that one sub-forum must be for non-owners as well (per Steam requirements).

You'd have to take this up with the devs

Good, they should make this mandatory then rather than optional

The devs pay for the space of the entire game hub, Valve are of the position of open discussion, but also allowing devs the option of setting it up how they please.

It's a good balance, personally, because most hubs don't have any issues being open.

Valve are definitely NOT 'of the position of open discussion'. They ban people trying to have a conversation and let the troll kinds roam free.

They are an "open discussion" type of company, hence why the no politics or religion rule was removed (unfortunately) and are less harsh with their moderation (can also be unfortunate).

Consistency is the issue with them, but that's another subject.

Either way, my point still stands - the devs pay for the space and Valve allows them to set it up almost entirely how they please.

The only way to generally get banned by steam mods is to break the rules, which typically means a discussion goes from normal to someone becoming uncivil, rude, derailing etc. For example if someone doesnt like the views of another and just starts becoming uncivil name-calling them or picking fights constantly, they risk a ban. Civil conversations tend to go well.

Know what else is against the rules, DEID? Spam. Know what the Steam Staff tends to ignore? Spam on one particular side. Know what counts as spam?

Funny how Steam doesn't do anything about that when they are the ones who moderate game forums. Isn't it convenient, DEID?

Oh and to cut off the, "It's not relevant". That was one forum being brigaded and spammed. That was 42 out of 48 recent topics. It's one hundred percent relevant, DEID.

I have seen this line before against a good amount of users but I am not in that group nor ever have been. I would strongly advise against labeling everyone as "deid" as it's not relevant to the discussion. :smokeybear:

Well from experience I know that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I was banned for discussing a game - I started a thread with my opinion on why I think the hard difficulty of Silent Hill 2 remake is too easy and I presented my argument POLITELY. As soon as I posted that, I started being attacked by, what can't be anything else other than, people with some sort of gaming inferiority complex calling me names, calling me elitist and just general harrassment towards me. And like I said i WAS POLITE just talking why I think what I think. I was banned for inflammatory speech because apparently I hurt people's feelings.

But in a typical Steam white knight fashion, you will come out and say I DEFINITELY must have broken the rules and I'm lying. So don't bother. I have more examples like that.

This is no isolated incident, DEID. Any time a game is popular enough or someone wants to generate outrage for clicks for ad revenue, this happens on a game forum. Page after page of topics like these.

Whether or not you like it, DEID, it's spam. Not only that, but it's spam with the intent to try to damage the game's ability to succeed, so in this instance, Hanlon's Razor does not apply. It exists to drown out any legitimate interest in the game in question, accidentally, but by design.

And the only time someone gets banned for this kind of spam? The only time people who are part of filling multiple pages with the same topic over and over again get banned? It's when the devs are running their own space. When steam is moderating it? Nothing.

One of the longterm bits of the forum is;
It's what you say & how you say it.
Iif other users are doing wrong it's best to report it, and not attempt to do the same in exchange as that will prevent issues.

Literally stop preaching to me. Like i said I WAS POLITE and wasn't 'doing the same in exchange' and guess what? I'VE BEEN REPORTING ALL THE TROLLS. NOTHING HAPPENS. AND I END UP GETTING BANNED. So with all due respect save it because I'm not a child that can't tell whether something I've said is 'inflammatory' or not. I have also shown my posts to other people and they have confirmed they didn't see anything that warranted a ban and we're all adults 30+.

Unless you're part of a massive group that will brigade support until you get unbanned if anyone has the temerity to ban you. Then you can say whatever you want without consequence because Steam Support doesn't want to deal with it.

One of the main parts is how behavior is seen by other players, steam mods, hub mods, devs etc even with a slight look into recent entries. If someone is outright losing their cool and is coming across as "rude or combative", or making inflammatory remarks, then it's difficult for them not to act on a party. Recent entries can in many cases, get a good feel for where an issue may be. :cozycastondeath:

The real reason you were banned is that the staff needed to look like they were doing something and you happened to not have the backing of a large group that is well known for going around and brigading forums and support for the smallest infractions. It wasn't about upholding the rules. It was about looking busy while taking the path of least resistance.

Either that or you said one of the magical no-no words of Steam.
