100% achievement without dlc plzzzzz steam
It's really annoying when you try to 100% a game only to find out that there's a DLC you need to purchase in order to get the last ones. And since not anyone has that kind of money I think it should be better if the players without the DLC had the opportunity to get all of the achievements getting 100% without spending any more money.

DLC stands for "downloadable content" anyway, so why make it "obligatory content" in terms of achievements?

no, you either put in the time, money and effort into getting the dlc-tied achievements or you don't get the achievements.

Or you use SAM.
Developers can already put achievements on DLCs only and should be mandatory to do so and not add them to the base game and require you to make a purchase you may not want to 100% a game.

We had a literal dev said he wants to do precisely that but cannot on his game.

They are not saints and can lie too. Addicted achievement hunters can be blackmailed into buying DLCs even years after the game was 100%ed for the first time, and that’s beautiful.

The fact that there's not a single game on Steam that has successfully made achievements you can earn as part of a DLC should indicate to you that that's not true.

But just in case it doesn't: I'm a developer and that's not true.

Yes there are games that have done this.

If someone figured out how to use a nonexistent API to grant achievements for a different appid, I'm sure a lot of developers would be thrilled to hear about it. Myself included.

This is such a great board.

If you want 100% then 100% the content, which includes DLC. Devs make it obligatory in order to increase DLC sales. Why should you get 100% for not getting the DLC when someone else spent the time and money to get 100% with the DLC?

Please provide a link for them, because I, for one, am interested in how it can be done.
Steam has no control of achievements

There's a DLC that was released 13 years ago that has achievements defined for it due to some database mistakes, but as you can see they don't actually work (and have never worked) as achievements on Steam: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/stats/205630/achievements/ (Tropico 4: Modern Times)

I believe there's also a soundtrack that has an achievement defined on it, but I don't remember the name. Again, it's not possible to see that achievement through any official part of Steam; it only shows up on SteamDB.

There's not a tab in the DLC admin panel for stats or achievements. There's not an API function to tell ISteamUserStats to work in a different appid's achievement list.

The one thing that Steam does have even remotely related to the feature request people keep making (one which I am fully in support of) is TF2's achievement groups: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/stats/TF2/achievements/

And unfortunately, the reason I had to say "TF2's" there is that Valve has never made that system available to any third party game developer or even used it for any other game.

So the answer is, "it can be done" but with the addendum, "but not by non-valce developers or without glitches/errors".

Good to know.

Achievements could be created on a DLC over a decade ago due to database glitches, but not on purpose and not now and there's never been a way to actually use achievements defined in that way.
