How should we know when desktop version isn't released yet?

What does Nvidia have to do with the 9070XT?

its more of a request as the steam help suggested I post an ask here for steamOS to include newer gpu support on the forum :). Anyone else interested. The reason being is the 9070xt and some other newer graphics cards are not supported due to the kernal and mesa not being at a higher version.

Probably wouldn't see the 9070 x or non xt for a handheld system (due to their higher power draw) but a 9060 xt could be possible with its smaller tdp of 160w for the 16gb version

Well about that part steamos shouldn't need to do any kind of updates to allow compatibility for the 9070 xt as the standard gpu software provided by amd should be just enough to run properly, the real limiting factor would be the hardware not the software

SteamOs hasn't been released for desktop pc yet, it's still steamdeck only

yes but its launched on the lenovo legion go s which has full egpu support via usb 4 and works with older gpus such as the 7700 xt, just doesnt work with nvidea. As it uses the amdgpu graphics driver.

My exact set up is the ag02 with the 9070xt I would like to stick my lenovo legion go s in it via usb4 just awaiting steamos updates.

Just hopping in to say that the 3.8 recovery iso is booting a 9080xt. No luck on 3.7 though.

SteamOS 3.8 is also working with my Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU: https://i.sstatic.net/wjMNRNjY.png

SteamOS does not support Nvidia GPUs. But you can get Bazzite, which is basically SteamOS, with a bit of extra features (nvidia support among them).

Still works perfectly on the 9070xt tho.

And there are some workarounds to get some nvidea cards working well. However the amd cpu you use needs to have graphics as well for initial setup eg 3D series cores
