need help about potentailly hacked account (not whining/bashing)
here's my prob. i got my account partially blocked by steam twice in a week. never been blocked in my entire life nor on steam nor anywhere else. according to steam support someone would have posted suspicious links in the chat. the thing is i never use the chat. i think i may have used it twice in my 20 years membership here at steam. so steam did well. as it's obviously not me. why i'm posting this for is to get advice(s) on how strenghtening my account security. i've changed the password of course, unlogged from all devices. and installed steam guard. I'm running a windows defender deep scan right now. Any advice to increase the security of my account, and eventually find the origin of the scam? would be appreciated. loosing my 20 years old steam account would totally pi.. me off. in case of other incidents i could be banned from all the community stuff. that would be nasty :steamsad:

The most likely attack vector "nowadays" is phishing, not malware. I mean, that deep scan, that can't hurt. But you have to educate yourself on phishing.

Yeah, that tends to happen when you go looking up obvious scam sites and either enter your account details or download malware. If it wasn't that, then you fell for an another obvious scam via private messaging or trading.

Nobody is ever hacked, they are phished. Secure your account(s) and stop visiting scam websites. Account security is your responsibility at all times.

how can one be dumb enough to give his/her steam data to someone. of course i didn't. is there a way to force close/lock down the chat. thx
edit: i used that trick to lock down the chat. I'll try not to forget it until next windows reinstall https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/discussions/forum/0/1762481957317046732/

Happens all the time and if your account is sending stuff, you've most likely been hijacked yourself. Ofc malware does exist, but comparing that to people somehow having been phished, its a large minority.

you mean windows defender isn't doing its job. that's a big surprise to me. i thought it was efficient. but something is coming to my mind. i installed flash player to play p0rn games from time to time. this could the s.. uninstalling it immediately. yep those flash based readers could be the thing
