Way back in the past, yes. Steam stopped refunding, as people pretended to have gotten scammed to duplicate Items.

The reason you got "hacked" (which isn't possible, unless you leaked your data yourself) is because you're using that website. All 3rd party websites are "use at own risk" especially all those trading and gambling ones. If you log in there using your Steam credentials, they have your Steamlogin and can scam you whenever they want.

Valve does not refund stolen items.

I once deposited my items on {SCAM SITE} to get balance, but my API key was leaked (or something like that, I’m not really sure). My account automatically canceled the offer from {SCAM SITE} and created a new offer that sent all my items straight to the hacker’s account. I lost about 300 dollars back in 2017, and that pile of items would probably be worth around 1000 dollars now.

Your items weren't Trade Protected in 2017.

I think you're right, this is indeed the most likely attack vector. That specific kind of scam is known as phishing.

Handing your house keys to a thief and then getting your house robbed is not breaking and entering.

You giving that 3rd party website your login information you gave them the keys to enter your account. You allowed them in by giving them your keys so you wasn't hacked you allowed them in.
