Save gone after power outage. file0/file9 exist, but the game doesn't see them
Hello everyone. I'm looking for help with a lost Undertale save.

What happened: My PC crashed due to a sudden power outage while I was playing. When I rebooted and launched the game, my progress was gone, and it started from the very beginning.

Here's what I've already checked:

The actual save files (file0 and file9) are present in the %localappdata%\UNDERTALE folder.

Their "Date modified" timestamp correctly matches the time of my last in-game save before the crash.

The filenames are correct — no extra extensions (not file0.txt, just file0).

Steam Cloud sync didn't restore it.

The core problem: The game acts as if these files don't exist and starts a completely new game.

First make backup of them, before attempt to try fix game or game profil.

its like games userprofile or config has change somehow after the crash, and as i get it you have several saves from 0 to 9, so some of them most work.

Could possibly sound like file got corrupted, which overwritten itself.

Issue with cloud save on any platform, the moment you close the game, it sync those files to the cloud replacing whatever there, and vice versa.

So if something happens like corrupt, or missing save file, don't close game, alt + tab instead, and go manually download your save files. Steam allows this you go to steam help page > my account > data related to my account > steam cloud > search for your game and download your save files. Then just make copy, and replace the current corrupt/missing files, then force close game without saving, then launch the game to see if that restore you old save you had.

I actually had this issue with many games, so i purchased a UPS. UPS stands for Unlimited/Uninteruptible Power Supply. Unfortanetly where i live, there is many rolling blackouts, so i have had corrupted saves due to power outages. If you can buy one, i suggest you should do so.

Have you disable write behind cache. if you have then you will lose data when such happend.

We have seen ppl before with fiddle with the wrong write behind cache on SSD or hardrives in the old days.

This is same then ppl use apps and forget save current work and powershortage monster come and kick our butt, ( there is no monstaer i made a comment on so ppl get it. )

same then play a game for 8 hour and you did not save now and then, no diffrence then you can't go back and undo a queat, we have all seen this and did it.
