Technically the launch of the game by steam should have detected if the right version was installed or not(and then install the right one automatically), but I guess thats not working for you at the moment. No harm installing ALL of the things you find in the dist folder, but it is overkill.
Also some games will adjust one or two global settings and have to install the thing you already installed if you play a different game and then come back. (Sanctum for instance)
Other than the few seconds you lose there are no other issues.
are these it?
Vcredist_2008_86?
But you probably have a 64bit machine so install the x64 version if thats there.
...
huzzah game doth launch!
grab an AIO (all in one) installer for ms visual runtimes, run it and allow it to remove all current ones, it will then install "all" currently used runtimes, then allow windows update to updates any of the installed runtimes, if they need updates, restart and check again to be safe.
this will not only allow you to install games without the need to install those runtimes, but will avoid this situation in almost all case.
you should have 22 ms visual runtimes, ranging from 2003 to the combined 2015-2022 versions (x86 and x64).
also might want to install "windows desktop runtimes" 5, 6 and 8, as some games require those.
also, your choice, but on rare occasions, you might find games that use XNA framework (likely 4.0 refresh), so you could install that as well.
also to note, some games might use stuff like "openAL" or other similar "audio libraries", that might be something to keep in mind, or install to avoid hassle.
better to have them and avoid issues, than to not have them and waste time trying to figure out the issues.
that all said, good luck and have a nice day
