F12 and steam overlay will not work.... F12 worked before, no clue why now
I use F12 to save a screenshot for games I p[lay, for some reason and I have no clue as to why it stopped work, pressing F12 does nothing now... and while in game I cannot even open the steam overlay (the one where you search a website or something like that)
I did try the windows snipping but it still prompts you to save so playing a game and having to do that is kinda a no...
I dont know what happened but its frustrating as how I like using one to take a screen and have it save immediately... I do have lightshot which you can take a region, but I dont use that in games.... is there some way to find out why it does not work?

Hello,

This is a common issue, and it's usually resolved by checking a few key settings. The most likely cause is a software conflict. Here is a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot it, from the simplest solutions onward.

1. Basic Steam Checks

· Restart Steam: Please exit Steam completely (via Steam > Exit) and restart it.
· Verify Steam Overlay Settings:
· Go to Steam > Settings > In-Game.
· Ensure the "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" checkbox is enabled.
· Also, check the in-game overlay keyboard shortcut is set to the default (Shift+Tab).
· Check Per-Game Settings:
· In your Steam Library, right-click the game having issues and select "Properties".
· Ensure "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" is checked for this specific title.

2. The Most Common Cause: Software Conflict

Another program is likely intercepting the F12 key before Steam can.

· Lightshot: This is the primary suspect, as it also uses F12 by default. Please close Lightshot completely via your system tray (near the clock) and test immediately. If this fixes it, you can change the screenshot hotkey within Lightshot's own settings.
· Other Software: Other applications like Discord, OBS, GeForce Experience, or keyboard/macro software (e.g., Razer Synapse, Logitech G Hub) can also cause conflicts. Try temporarily closing them.

3. Advanced Troubleshooting

· Restart Your Computer: A simple reboot can sometimes resolve the issue.
· Reset the Steam Overlay: Exit Steam. Navigate to your Steam installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), and delete (or rename) the appcache and htmlcache folders. Restart Steam; it will recreate these files.

Please start with the second point (closing Lightshot), as it is the most frequent solution. Let us know the results, and we can explore further if needed.

I do believe it was some other program, I do not know what it would have been since lightshot uses prnt scrn by default, I never changed it... I did install greenshot and will now uninstall it because it does the same thing.... I did just change the key itself to another key. it works, however not able to open steam overlay even with the keys as shift tab

I appreciate the help and troubleshooting...I will reply again if I need anything else.
