400 hundred updates twice this week
I have had my steam deck for a year and a half, and at most there might be 10-20 updates a day.

Twice this week 400 of my games have required updates, and this seems to be associated with an overall performance decrease on my deck until I clear them out.

Frustratingly all the updates are in the “scheduled”, so I have to manually hit “download now”. on all of them.

This is extremely annoying and when is this going to end?

Is there a way to immediately start downloading the entire “scheduled” list without having to manually trigger them individually?

Steam button >> Settings >> Downloads.

There are some options there that might help you, if you haven't tried that already. I just put the settings to only update games when I launch the game because I was getting tired of the constant updates in my Steam Deck, too. Hope that helps.
Probably the Unity security updates.

When you have near 2500 games, you will get updates alot learn to use steam schedule and learn to accept them in off peak hours, when you dont use PC.

i doubt you want hear un install games you do not play.

learn to have schedule games you dont play atm. in the steam dl cue.
steam actual try update games when server and you have lesser to do.

This is well known among old pc dudes, and old habits that hard to change, i only learn this thanks to IT companys update overnight and try nor to bother normal time, so downtime is lesser, why will gamers not do this anyway, as you actual have a choise in say no to a game update anyway.

Use schedule dl management in off peak hours 0100 to 0500, or whatever that is for you.

There is a old saying why waste time on see paint dry on wall. ( patches is no diffrent. )

Most likely. Been seeing waves of IP getting the same size updates. Almost looks like when the shader pre-caches get updated.
