Analog stick button presses missing after Steam client update (Nov 18, 2025)
Hello,
after the latest Steam client update on November 18, 2025, I noticed that the analog stick button presses (the L3/R3 clicks) on generic controllers/joypads are no longer detected.

Previously, these inputs were correctly shown in the Steam controller test page, but now they are missing and not recognized at all. This issue affects multiple generic controllers, while other buttons still work as expected.

Could this be a regression introduced in the recent update? Has anyone else experienced the same problem, or found a workaround?

Thanks in advance for any help or confirmation.

I hear alot of issues with controllers since the latest update, so yea, it was most likely introduced in last update.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought too. I actually opened a thread about it because after the Nov 18 Steam update the L3/R3 clicks just stopped being detected on generic controllers. Before the update they showed up fine in the controller test page, so it really feels like a regression. Other buttons still work, which makes it even more annoying. I’m kinda surprised this slipped through, but hopefully Valve pushes a fix soon.

Dear Valve team,

We would like to ask whether you are currently working on resolving the recent compatibility issues affecting generic controllers and joypads through Steam Input/Steam API. Many users have noticed that devices which previously worked seamlessly are now either not recognized or require complicated manual configurations.

Our concern is whether Valve intends to restore proper support for these controllers, or if the community is expected to rely on unofficial and short-lived solutions from GitHub projects that often disappear within a day of being published. Steam has always been valued as the most reliable and universal platform for PC gaming, and losing this key element of compatibility undermines that trust.

Could you please clarify if a fix or roadmap is being considered? Knowing Valve’s position would help the community decide whether to wait for an official solution or look elsewhere.
