Steam game that my friend accepted says unredeemed
Title bascially. He accepted the game and has been playing it for days now. All of the sudden we both get "your game is unredeemed and will refund Nov. 2 if you don't accept" emails which makes no sense, as... he did. He's actively playing it.

Can we ignore this? He has no option to accept, it's greyed out. He can only decline, despite having the game and can actively play it, and they took the money from my card. Will it go away Nov. 2?

Did you buy the game from steam? If so contact steam support. If not, contact the place you purchased the game from. This is common thing with grey market sites.

Since he already owns the game, Steam won't let him accept the gift since (other than in some unavoidable cases) they won't let you have the same game multiple times.

Steam pulled your money when you bought the gift. It will be return when you refund; not entirely sure how the automated gift return affects the refund target (it might go back to the original payment method, or the steam wallet. No idea).
