Please explain like I'm 5, the market.
Can some one please explain to me like I'm 5, what the market is and what game badges and drops are? I sincerely got into gaming for the kid, and I tried to read all the bulletin points offered in any of the badge spaces or marketplace? spaces, but I am still not understanding, and they where only able to offer an vague "ehh, I don't really know". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I've read through this as well, and I had googled. So this is just a way to make money back from the games?

Not just. You can also craft those cards into badges.

Also, the amount of money you'd make back is miniscule.

Some games have items that can appear in your Steam inventory. You can trade these in-game items to other people using Steam itself, or you can put them up for sale in the marketplace. Most of these items are purely cosmetic, but the rare ones can fetch money from collectors.

Trading cards are kind of similar. You get them automatically while playing a game, up to half of what's available. To get the rest of the cards, you need to trade for them or buy them from the market. They don't do anything, but once you have a complete set, you can craft a badge. Badges don't really do much, either, but they give you Steam XP and give you some free emoticons you can use in posts.

Once again, Steam XP doesn't really do anything, but it does eventually level up your profile. Guess what leveling up your profile does? Yeah, that's right, it's kind of pointless. However, it allows you to further customize your Steam profile, add more friends, and puts you in the running for free trading cards.

So, what does all this stuff do? Pretty much nothing. It's just random stuff to do for people who have money burning a hole in their pocket. If you don't care about customizing your Steam profile to make it look like a Myspace page from 2005, you can skip it all.

Or if you wanted to, you could sell every free item that Steam puts in your inventory and make a dollar or two per year.
