Is there a way to have Linux Steam client SKIP the check for sufficient space?
The motivation is a touch convoluted. I dual boot Linux and MS-Windows. Having the Steam Linux client use a library made under MS-Windows does NOT work; running any game this way fails (I think this is because how Steam does its Proton integration). However, what does work is to make the explicit directory name of the game in the Linux game library and then softlink all of the MS-Windows install game files to it. For example, for the game 30XX the sequence is:

/code
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common$ mkdir 30XX
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common$ ln -s /path/to/windows/install/30XX/* 30XX
/encode

then installing the game on the Steam Linux client is just validating the files; though make sure the NTFS partition is mounted rw (instead of ro)

Now for my part; my Linux partition is not very big and a number of games exceed its freespace and so the Steam Linux client will refuse to "install" a game because it won't fit even though in truth nothing is downloaded and it does "fit" because the files are already there (via softlinks).

So, is there a way to get the Steam Linux Client to skip the space check? or a way to lie to the Steam Linux client on space remaining? This is also valid if people do interesting soft-link logic under .steam as well....

Dont think so, steam, has so many users that don't know consequence for not have free space, as you and i see it from other side its our job to know it is.( and file compress ratio is also our problem. ( you see steam user use all space even at boot drive, so NO steam will never remove it infact in the futur can be even worse , what prevent steam make a viatual 1TB space allocated storage and give warning then use last 1 TB, just wait to steam user crash OS then MS recover free space fail someday.

And again you are right not a steam issue is it, that a user make such mistake.
we will never geta option as a choise, steam has kids on the client so it will be a NO never going to happend. ( IMO )

dont forget we are steam users here, what steam will do or see fit, wll be so.
