Linking steam games from an old hard drive to a new one.
Ok so bit of context.
Got an NVME recently. Its now my main drive with windows 11.
Prior to this i had an SSD main drive with windows 10, HDD backup drive.

Iv gone into settings, and HAVE linked the HDD library and can access the games installed on it.
My problem is the SSD (which has all of my large important games on it) is showing up but its acting/thinking there arent any games on it when i select it like i did the HDD.

I can boot back to windows 10 and just manually transfer then delete them but if someone knows whats going on and how i go about fixing it id really appreciate it. Iv tried looking up the problem previous but the only suggestions iv found havent helped me thus far. Thank you.

Use the storage manager to link it as a new library

Yes.
I have done that.
the HDD is linked.
The SSD appears there but it behaves like there are no steam games on it.

How can i take a picture like that and i will show you.
Does anyone else have any ideas?

Steam has change something, even then you move a game from one driver to other it go though validate content, could you have same issue here,

Assume same steam account users and steam can see the old drive in steam library.

and you might have to use in steam storage to move games so you know drive has been recogized by steam own file system.

i have 4 drives in pc, if steam dont see it at steam storage then steam so not know about it.

use ARROW DOWN at current viewed default drive.

other possible ideas try repair steam library ( the 3 dots option ) or validate a small game to see if this matters.

othre issue steam need to be in the root as steamlibrary, ( its steam recommendation to avoid OS rights issue. )

Dont forget it sounds like you did all the right things, but also sounds like something is not right. when steam do not work with it.

Crazy ideas is rename steam lib to .old make new steam lib there if you can do that then try move all game content to the right place. ( same as old guides did it in the past. )

Having read what you said the first time and fiddled about a bit i seem to have figuered it out.

First of all i removed the drive from the added list.

Then i went to "add drive" and instead of choosing the drives name (in this case the E drive) i selected choose another location.

I then went to the programs86 location, clicked on the "steam" folder (not entering it) and then clicked "select" down the bottom to link the steam storage adding directly to the old steam file.

Having a log through the surface level files it SEEMS that steam created a NEW folder on my filled drive instead of LINKING to the pre existing one (like it did with my D drive) but thankfully selecting the old steam folder seems to have connected them just fine now.

So hopefully anyone else having this issue can figure it out and follow along as well. Thanks for your help everyone my dark souls 2 character file is saved- haha.

Just so you know we have seen ppl edit steam drive lettera in steam VDF, this can only lead to steam has no clue in what users has done, also been said do not do this. ( this happend in the paat then ppl have moved things outside steam to other drives and make own mess of it. )

There is a reason steam has made move functions at each game properties and steam storage as option, if you did this it could explan alot why steam dont accept wrong drive letter in VDF files.

yeah Program files is under OS protections, also why steam make root library on multi drives.
and why its a issue to access it.

atleast your post can help other steam user with it, gj to understand why it was a security issue, as fare as i see it.

if you are unhappy with assinged drive letter , you should enter computer administration to change it, do not edit VDF files.

i have seen camara multi flash drive attached to system jump around and change drives letters depend on what flash card is there and make system access issue to OS shortcut.point at wrong letter.
