Err...no. That's an error on the user's part, not 2FA. The security tool is doing it's job. Account security is YOUR responsibility at all times.
Thank you!!
I would argue the PSA is human memory is very fallible. So you should use a proper password manager to keep track of accounts, credentials, 2FA details and backup recovery codes.
Because 2FA didn't screw you over, your lax account management did. If you do nothing to change that, it's only a matter of time before you get burnt again.
Nah I just learned to have an email without a code requirement for logging in as the end of the chain.
In other words a weaker link but I'm an idiot that needs a weaker link 🫡
I remembered all my passwords but it's hard to keep tabs on recovery codes if you're locked out even with those in mind lol. I miss the days of mother's maiden name security questions. Does this make me a boomer 🥴
It is possible to recover a Steam account. You don't need access to the email, phone or password currently tied to the stolen account for this to work.
The recovery process allows you to contact Steam Support to provide proof of ownership.
Follow this guide to recover your account:

Well all I can say it's pretty typical human behavior when presented with a good solution and a crummy solution, humans love to opt for the crummy solution, because reasons. Sometimes they just lack the expertise to make an informed decision. Sometimes the good solution is just too much work, so an easy crummy solution is preferable in the short term. And since you probably won't be getting burned by crappy account management every day your brain interprets that as not a problem when it does happen. Since there's not a problem, you don't really need to do anything solve it.
Diligent password manager use is pretty convenient. I've not had very much success convincing anyone to do a bunch of work for the benefit of their future selves.
