It's logical to not assume when there's easily accessible information a few mouse clicks away.
You can rationalize why you chose to assume and pretend it was logical. But when your logic is all wrong when it runs into reality, doesn't that suggest a flaw in your logic and assumptions?
But don't sweat it, a lot of people do what you did. And even the rest of us who know all about the refund policy. We've made a thousand incorrect assumptions about a thousand things or guesses about how something works. And when we're wrong we promise we'll never make that mistake again, and this time we really mean it! It's just part of being a person. Just big sacks of electric meat barely making it through existence. No wonder we make so many mistakes.
