What is the actual purpose of the typing backwards feature in steam overlays?

Been on steam a long time and this bug has been here in some form as long as I can remember. Is it actually a bug? Does gaben think I have any reason or need whatsoever for the characters I'm typing to appear in a text field in reverse? If not, how is such a tiny bug still here? How many more years of development will it take to make typing just work like it does on every other conceivable piece of software ever developed?

I'm confused and frustrated either way; either why valve thinks anyone would want the characters they type to go right to left which is insane, or valve, absolute lords of PC gaming, simply cannot scrounge up the resources to fix this.

Then it's a Chromium bug.

Steam uses the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) for its UI. So any bugs in CEF can easily become bugs in Steam.

Also RTL languages do exist. Arabic, Hebrew, etc.

Valve should probably do something about it then. "not our problem" isn't usually Valve's style.

Because it should have been fixed years and years and years ago.

No other program I've ever used has had this RTL typing happen. Every other program understands "Oh hey his language is set to English, maybe we should prevent RTL typing for users who are obviously typing LTR" and it's not an issue.

I really don't get the mindset of "This thing doesn't bother me but other people have a problem with it. I'll give them ♥♥♥♥ for having a problem with it instead of moving on with my day."

You're not bothered by the typing bug? Unsubscribe from the thread and touch grass, let me wallow online in pointless bs if you're so above it.
