I can't play steam anymore
I’m having trouble launching Steam games on my PC. Every time I try to start a game, I get this error message:

[GAME NAME]
“Failed to start game process: '�������� …' (0x11C7).”

The error text is corrupted/garbled, and this problem happens with all games, not just one title. None of them will launch.

After searching online, I found that this might be related to Windows Smart App Control. Some people suggest disabling this feature to fix the issue. However, Microsoft warns that once Smart App Control is turned off, it cannot be re-enabled, which makes me worried about the security risks.

Summary:

Issue: All Steam games fail to start (error 0x11C7).

Symptom: Corrupted text in error popup.

Possible cause: Windows Smart App Control blocking the process.

Concern: Turning off Smart App Control permanently may reduce system security.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a safer workaround that doesn’t involve permanently disabling Smart App Control? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As you said it, try add game.exe to security allow list.

Windows Smart App Control blocking the process.

so there is no exception rules to make ?

ps.
You need to get this fast, secuirty app is not a MS or steam or game devs issue,
we have seen security app 10 years later block a game, this is why they will not fix your security issue, and why most have a add exceptions rule. ( some call it whitelist in the past but we are talking about same thing.

If you goolge that 0x11C7 i fount a starfield issue with it and then i could judge ahh security appp issue.


first rule make steam.exe on it, and hope that can solve thirdpart app run though steam allowed.

sometime that not enough and game own .exe need to be added and its configuration.exe also for multi .exe in how they game devs did it.

Smart App Control is just going to get in the way. It's Microsoft's way of deciding what is a valid application from an invalid application. It requires developers to submit their application to Microsoft to obtain a digital license for it. Basically it's another layer of DRM.

I've had mine turned off since the beginning. Unless you make a habit of downloading and running applications from random sources on the internet, it's not needed.
