512GB OLED steam deck

No matter what I do, the native steam deck recording of a video game freezes about 6 seconds in. The audio still plays in the background, but the video freezes and the videos are absolutely worthless. I have tried...
- manual recording versus automatic background recording
- changing the frame rate of the video recording
- changing the frame rate of the game itself
- restarting the system
- trying it in offline mode and online mode
- rolling back the OS
- trying it on the beta channel instead of the stable channel
this is a brand new steam deck that I just got two days ago and this has been an issue right out of the box. Nothing fixes the issue. This has been a problem for months for several people and it has not been fixed.
