I have used my debit card to pay for games on Steam for donkey's years and I couldn't figure out how or why it wouldn't work.
In the UK no-one under the age of 16 is competent to sign a contract so I couldn't see how a person under 18 could have a debit card (I figured there must be some sort of contract involved).
It does mean that I have to do a Lazarus on one of my credit cards but needs must when the Devil drives.
You can have a debit card from age 11+ in the UK.
So it's the parents who bear the liability of the contract. That's makes sense. I was a tax litigator (not a lawyer) but my legal knowledge is limited to the relevant areas of law.
