How old is the drive.
My entire games 259 are all on my WD USB drive for many many years I always correctly exit .
Replace drive every 5 years.
The life of hard drives are 5 years technically. I believe you just reached the end of life of your hard drive. Most likely your hard drive maybe failing. Is it making loud noises too? Post on here after listening to it and see how loud it is.
Suggestion: Replace the hard drive with a solid state drive. They last for 100 years basically before failing. They have come down in price quite a bit since they were first released.
i found all the files became corrupted and turned into chk files. from what i can tell shutting down steam or my pc in a dumbass way coulda caused this as i have done it a few times recently
managed to find out how to see the files in my drive and copied them overnight to steam game directory and am now seeing if they can be recognised
Yea, if unproperly shut down pc, it can cause massive corruption. I suggest also running the scandisk /sfc in console as administrator to fix any other corruption issues on your pc. It could lead to further problems in the future if not done. Here is information on how to do it:
