Be Careful When Using Steam Wallet + Card
Just a heads-up to anyone who splits payments between their Steam Wallet and a credit card: you might want to double-check your checkout screen.

I recently bought Battlefield 6 for $70. I had $54 in Steam Wallet funds and chose the option to “use wallet funds first, charge the rest to Visa.” After completing the purchase, my Visa was charged the full $70, and my wallet balance stayed untouched.

When I reached out to Steam Support, I expected a quick fix. Instead, I got a series of responses blaming me for “selecting my credit card only” or “clicking the back button during checkout.” Then another agent admitted that making multiple purchase attempts too quickly can make your wallet funds “temporarily unavailable” but they still refused to correct the transaction.

So apparently, if their system hiccups and skips your wallet, you just eat the cost and they tell you not to click “back” next time.

This isn’t about a refund or changing payment methods after the fact, it’s about a system error they acknowledge, but won’t fix. I’ve been a Steam customer for years, and this honestly left a bad taste.

Tips if you’re buying something with partial wallet and CC:

Wait at least a minute between failed attempts, or your wallet funds might get ignored.

Screenshot your checkout summary before confirming.

Don’t expect post-purchase help if something goes wrong - once it’s “completed,” you’re out of luck.

Hopefully this saves someone else the same headache.

Steam may ignore wallet funds if you make multiple quick purchase attempts. The system can glitch and charge your card fully. Steam acknowledges the issue but won’t refund. It’s safer to wait between attempts and screenshot your checkout before confirming.

Yes, this is the point of the post. Not sure how this information really adds anything here

The point is, it's a blatant cash grab for Steam. Introduce a "feature" that somehow disables your wallet funds from a purchase because of an unavoidable "system glitch" (no warning have you, no notice to wait if the system bugs out, NOTHING).

Now, Steam has the additional funds from my CC that I never intended for Steam, and will also get the wallet funds later when I decide to use them for the next game. It's scummy, and when reaching out for a simple fix, they act as if the client needs to be hard-coded for this functionality. It's ridiculous
