- Exit Steam.
- Locate the Steam library folder in drive "D." I believe it is "SteamLibrary" by default but you can identify it because it will contain a "steamapps" folder and the two files "libraryfolder.vdf" and "steam.dll."
- Rename the folder to something like "TempLibrary."
- Restart the Steam client.
- Go to Steam>Settings>Storage and click the top box in the "Storage" window and select "Add Drive" to add a library to the "D" drive.
- Exit Steam.
- Delete the contents of the newly created "SteamLibrary" folder.
- Move the contents of "TempLibrary" into "SteamLibrary"
- Restart Steam.
- Check in Settings>Storage and determine if the Steam library for drive "D" is recognized.
- Delete the now empty "TempLibrary" folder .
The games you had previously installed in "D" *should* show as such in the Library. But if they do not then try installing one. Steam *should* appear to be installing the game from scratch but will actually be verifying the previously installed files. You may need to re-designate the "D" drive as the default drive. It didn't work, followed every step. Still appears as missing file privileges when installing games in D: drive
This wasn't the case when I'm installing 1gb sized game in a 128gb free space remaining, also wasn't an issue when installing huge games like Red Dead Redemption 2
It's somehow strange why the D: drive has to require Steam to run as admin just to install games properly through steam
canm you plz recheck page i read Storage: 150 GB available space requiremnts, im sure you can see a problem here. ( again we have no clue if its RDR2 you try to DL again or other game. )
There isn't much restriction access given to disk D: I can normally drag in and out files without needing additional permission. It's only Steam behaving like this; launchers like Epic Games and Rockstar Games Launcher have no problems installing and updating games located in D: drive.
keep in mind we can only use that info you provide what game and whats free left and RDR2 cant fit into there, if its even that game we talking about. ( its like you use that game as ref. np then you did that. )
It was an example that there was no storage exceeding issues whether it was only 1gb or more, Steam will still say "missing file privileges"
What I'm referring to is whether I'm installing games regardless of size and free space; in D: drive, it still won't let me install
exatly what dl name or content is it you try install. maybe that game forum knows better. or one of us here have the game then we might check 1gb dl game.
you need to understand why i ask, and then in storage manage move it to other disk as test. ?
and im sorry if you dont know me here, i see and do many ways to try ID whats wrong, thats the problem with faulth finding procedur.
and you might also need to run windows chack disk on all disks , to ruleout any system issue, for the most its no error at all, and there is always one that got a issue then we dont mention it.
I just mentioned all the games that I have not installed in the library won't install in D: drive EXCEPT in C: drive which install games with enough space just as D: drive. Also the games were ALREADY installed in D: drive weren't updating anymore because it won't let steam access D: drive without having steam run as an ADMIN
I've already stated and proven in my first opening that I have no problems installing those games in C: drive but why am I being prevented by Steam from installing them in D: drive instead? Is it that difficult to follow up?
and we dont know why you lost that.
you can try this cmd, google them ( so learn and know what they are doing and know them for next time )
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
SFC /Scannow
steam is not responsible for things like addware or thirpart app interference with steam or things you access on web page that maybe screw with OS Rights,
and this is a user forum, feel free to reset windows or reinstall steam, noone today suggest that to anyone anymore because we have no hands on whats cause this,
try safe boot mode ( google how to do that on win10/11 if you dont know how to do. )
i could say look like addware or virus or interference or scripts manipulation, problem is something cause this to steam, now you need to check for alot of this, user rights is the problem here and what cause this.
