Error 42 while editing a Steam Group profile [SOLVED]
Hello there

I get the following error when I try to make edits to a Steam Group Profile:
"There was an error modifying the forum settings. (42)"

I have tried both a Mozilla & Chromium based browser with no change.

If I try via the Steam App, I see the following error:
"An error occurred while setting account details".

Some things work however, when I upload a group image this works but with the error. However, the Summary only shows to those who are logged into Steam which makes no sense as it's completely open to all.
Similarly when I Edit Group Permissions I do not see any error.

I can only find very old posts about this issue with no resolution.

Ok so I have gone ahead and deleted the group after changing the abbreviation & custom URL to something garbled and then leaving the group as its only member. (which apparently deletes it)

I have attempted to create another group but I still have the same issue.

Ok I found the solution!

I was using a dot "." in my Group Name - this clearly causes problems. Once I recreated a group without a dot in the name all is well. Lovely Jubbly!

Dear Steam, please can you add a means to detect this when people click on 'Check Availability' or just allow dots in the name.

P.S. Fun fact looks like I had the same problem in 2014 !!! Please patch this Steam :steammocking:

I sure hope an apostrophe (') doesn't trigger the same error.
If it hasn't been fixed by now I will be sad :steamthumbsdown:
