I recall posting that advise to people who got hacked as well, but they didn't welcome it. (I mean, there literally is no benefit when linking your account anyway, so idk why that even happened.)
Currently Discord pretty much tracks and registers whatever program you're running and tries to read stuff like usernames anyway. Even if you don't link your account; unfortunately it seems that Discord still finds it nessecary to register information that maybe useful for these scammers in your settings window.
And so it isn't enough to just not link basically.
It helps at least, but I recommend just not using it. Only use it when you have to, but not as a mainstream chat / explore the internet thing.
Make sure that losing your discord doesn't matter a thing at least.
Though I'll be honest; my account's linked to Discord but for these two years, I never get to see scams happening on me and lost my account again, at least after my last experience in 2020.
It's why be vigilant and act calm and quick is better than be sorry. Scams will look for any vulnerabilities in mind.
What it will do is allow others to see what Steam account is yours and possibly attract the attention of others who would like to gain access to your account or try and steal your Steam inventory items. Then the vulnerability that exists is how easily swayed you are to confidence scams.
If you can't tell the difference between genuine or malicious intent, then you're better off not being on any social platform anyway. Having a Steam account linked to a social platform is the least of your worries. But, the less attention you attract the better off you'll be, so it's probably best for you to not link anything, Steam or otherwise, to your Discord account.
Thank you for clarifying that. Reading posts I got the impression that youre compromising your acc just by linking.
Linking your accounts makes you more vulnerable to attempted scams.
Not linking your accounts is good advice.
