"file upload failed: 29" FIX

Got this error when uploading images to ur guide? I gotchu.

Apparently the reason this error pops up is because steam thinks you've already uploaded that file, even though it's not showing up on your guide.

STEP 1:
Resize &/or rename your picture file(s). I use paint to slightly downscale my pics just so I don't have to worry about going over the 8MB limit.

STEP 2:
Upload your picture file(s) to your steam guide contents. You may have to delete the picture that wan't uploading properly, but it'll probably just show up as a black image on your steam guide contents.

The same issue seems to happen to workshop entries. Had a screenshot randomly error out and disappear from it, and reuploading it failed too until I renamed the file.

this is so infuriating. I had images in my guide that worked flawlessly for months, then one day I noticed they aren't displayed anymore. Checking the guide image contents I see they have a size 0 byte, so some sort of bug. I deleted those buggy images and tried reuploading but error 29 at all times. I checked, rechecked, and tripple checked, the images are 100% not already uploaded.

My guide keep encountered this issue.
The image link dead without notice.
I can't renew my image.
Only rename and upload and link the new images can work.
Really annoyed.
Please report to this if you encounter this bug too.
Or Valve will still think this is not important and not fix it.

I'm having this issue as well, four years after the original post.

Steam, please! Even after deleting all the 0kb bugged images, it won't let me reupload them. It's already a hassle renaming every file and reinserting every images into it's place. I don't want to worry about having to do it again when it randomly bugs out again.☠️

A similar case. I deleted the same images via Big Picture (since they were not displayed in Steam itself) - it helped at one time, but now it is useless. I will have to change the resolution, name or format of the image to display it in the guide again.

Some also advised to put images in JPG format, not PNG, to avoid their disappearance, although I have doubts about this method - mainly because I will have to change all the images in guides that display more than 100 images, which takes too much time.
