Does anyone else find this Black Friday sale... really disappointing?
Per title. Very little I care about even went on sale. Depths of sales seem to be tepid, even mediocre. I'm hoping the holiday sale is more robust, but this is still disappointing.

It wasn’t really a sales for the event kind of situation I don’t think; I think they just highlighted all the games that happened to be on sale.

I think they only did it because it feels like it’s something everybody has to do imo.

But black Friday doesn’t even take place after Thanksgiving this year in a lot of places and they spread it out across multiple days so yeah in general not just on Steam it’s not really as big a bang as it used to be, although that means less violence lol.

Because...

What about Black Friday?!

Don’t worry—Steam has you covered if you were still hoping to run discounts during the unofficial official start to the holiday shopping season, known in many regions as Black Friday and Cyber Monday (and the days in-between!)

Though Steam will not be hosting a Black Friday sale of its own, we will have Black Friday special offers on our Discounts and Events page from November 24 through December 1st as a way to surface discounted titles of all genres during this time period. This is just like our usual Special Offers Page that we have year-round on Steam, but with extra theming and artwork around Black Friday.

This means November 24th through December 1st is still a great option for running discounts; just be aware that participating in Black Friday Special Offers triggers the usual discount cooldowns and is not exempt the way our seasonal sales are.

Y'know what? That's fair. I'll just roll with it. Recent sales events have been middling and I was bummed about it, so I'll just hope the actual holiday sale is decent.

Typically the four seasonal sales have the most games on sale. As to them being decent, that is fairly subjective. I've always found them to be at least decent, but then some are never happy unless everything they want is 90% off.

And it’s not actually a good thing if the AAA game that just came out has such a huge discount so soon; that means nobody’s buying it. And if it’s a GAAS game that could mean you’re buying 90% off absolutely nothing when they shut down the servers a week later.

Can only sell the games that exist and assuming you already got caught up on the big launches of last year.

Stalker 2, your slew of remakes, Baldurs Gate 3, you're self inserted favorite AA title.

It's just gonna be dregs left for this holiday season.
If you can't find a good price on a game right on Steam it is not hard to look elsewhere for Steam keys.

i don't see what I want on Black Friday

Games that are selling well will not be dropped in price. It's not Valve or Steam that sets the prices for the games or the sales. It's the devs themselves. Also, there is a cooldown period between sales, so some might be locked and others might be holding for the next even.
I've already gotten a few very cheap games.
OTOH, you got EAFC at 50%. And still the 50% price is higher than the game's rating. There are plenty of games on sale, but it's never going to please everyone.

It's technically the gamers. As long as someone is buying the games at the prices being set, there's no reason for them to be lowered.

Indeed, if you look at cause and consequence. And that is the beauty of steam that so many people don't seem to understand. Valve is so hands off that most of the decisions are made by "the market".
One of my favourite games is Rimworld and there is a recurrent topic on the forums about the game never going for more than 20% sale. It's a 12 year old game that consistently sits on the top50 played games. Has ridiculously good reviews and keeps selling. Why would they sell it for cheap?

I found it to be terribly disappointing, but I still managed to pay somehow. I picked up Days Gone, Shin Megami Tensei V, and Dragon Quest XI. One better then average, one an all time low here, and one that's timeless. As in it'll never go for less. So I objectively found a couple, and just cut to the chase on the last. That being said I really had to dig.

So I'm actually curious if anyone else found anything they'd consider a steal. Not something that they have seen at that price ten times before already. Now that right there is probably the more productive question to be asking. Can anyone point to me to an all new certified fresh bargain. I can't imagine I'm the only one to actually find some treasure.

There's got to be more buried out there.

Nah. There's never a lack of interesting games with nice discounts during any of these sales.
