just get a credit card

Not sure how it works in the UK but we can buy prepaid credit cards (like a gift card but with VISA or Mastercard) and that is anonymous to use - though it does cost to buy the card. Hope it helps.

Pre-paid gift cards do not qualify for the age verification in the UK.

Just get something like the Fizz Card if its available in your country where it only allows you to spend what you have in your bank. It's much less risky than a traditional credit card (no interest, no late fees, no credit check). It's probably your only way until things change.

What does that have to do with anything? The King doesn't exact law and hasn't done for a long time.

The UK's Online Safety Act began as a draft Bill published in May 2021, was introduced to Parliament in March 2022, progressed through the Houses, received Royal Assent (became law) in October 2023, and is now being implemented in phases by Ofcom.

Nothing to do with Keir Starmer, it was passed into law during Rishi Sunak's time as PM.

but yep it is crap ... cost nothing to have a credit card... and its not like you have to spend hundreds either....

over here i had to buy a mobile phone and then a mobile plan so
i can tell my interenet company my new visa card date expiry....

wasnt cheap... and its only every few years they expire...

You all ought to come to America where you can't buy lighters with out age verification.
Most places scan your driver license.

Do you need age verification to buy beer?
If so are you going to quit drinking or get ID?

Here you need verification to buy cigarettes, do you?
Are you going to quit smoking or pony up that ID.

P ornography?
Need ID to even walk in the shop.

Now steam always seems to have one or another XXX game on the trending list, that I wouldn't want my kids playing so I want some sort of age verification.

But this is another politician law to make voters feel like their representative is doing something, that does not address the real issue. Child predators in kids games.

Preventing kids from getting adult games is not really protecting them, it's protecting yourself/game from litigation.

If the title is so important, people should be able to complain to the castle to fix the law, but they can’t. Many countries don’t even have a royal, and they don’t have that kind of law... Long live fredom!

The government provides more options for age verification but steam doesn't want to program them in.
